Para muchos es un misterio descubrir la habitación de una mujer ¿Qué hay en ella? ¿Serán ordenadas?
Para darnos una idea precisa de los secretos que la habitación de una mujer esconde, Gabriele Galimberti y Edoardo Delille crearon una serie fotográfica en conjunto con el colectivo fotográfico masculino Riverboom, en donde se aprecian habitaciones de chicas entre los 18 y 30 años en los cinco continentes.
La serie de imágenes son un excelente documento visual que nos permite conocer la estética en uno de los espacios más preciados por muchos en nuestras casas y que van desde las decoraciones ostentosas hasta la pobreza extrema con una amplia gama de estilos.
Entre las historias detrás de las imágenes nos encontramos a un policía estadounidense de origen iraquí compartiendo la habitación con sus dos hijos, el primer bailarín del Ballet de la Ópera de Estambul, la hija de un 9/11 víctimas que viven en Nueva York y una habitación en Kenia de alguien con mentalidad independiente dentro de una sociedad muy conservadora.
Anna Scheller, 28 – Berlin, Germany
Anna was born and raised in a small village in the country side of the north Germany. She lived there until she was 23 studing to became a teacher for kindergarten. After the univestity she immediately started to work for an alternative kindergarten. “The kids at the school were all sons of musicians, artist, djs, new hippies. It’s really nice to work in that kind of kindergarten. We served just vegetarian food and every days we did some activity outside in the forest. We all used to go at the museums, concerts and a lot of cultural things with the kids” she tells. Anna lives in Berlin now and she works for another alternative kindergarten. “It was really easy to find a joob here in Berlin! There are 300 teachers less then what the city needs!”, Anna says.
Carla Sgarbi and Mariana Bayle, 26 – Buenos Aires (Argentina) –
“We don’t remember when we first met. We were one year old, our parents were friends and neighbours”, says Mariana. “I was a chubby girl, Carla was very slim. When our grandmothers met, they would complain for the opposite reasons”. Since that time Mariana and Carla have done almost everything together. They share the same interests and passions, first of all the one for politics. Carla, who is graduated in Law, is an activist of the Partido Obrero, of the extreme left wing, while Mariana, who has a degree in Political Science, wants to follow her very soon. Their house in the centre of Buenos Aires is very small. There is a bit of everything everywhere: clothes, shoes, bottles, household appliances. There is a marijuana plant on the bedside. A mattress between their two beds is always ready for the guests!
Claire Black, 27 – London, U.K.
Claire was born in Edinburgh 27 years ago. She’s now living il London. 3 years ago one of her best friend asked her for some help to organize a little show and workshop of BDSM in a night club. From that point Claire started to be passionate about BDSM and all this kind of things. She then started to make some show and workshops alone. By the time, people started to ask her for some private sessions and so, Claire, decided to start making private sessions of BDSM at home. She doesn’t work but whe would love to be an hair dresser.
Kandra Powery 25, and her three children, Kayla 9, Kaleb 8 and Janae 2.West bay, Gran Cayman – Kandra was born ans raised in Cayman, a thriving offshore financial center, The 4th richest country in the Americas but has real pockets of poverty. 55% of the labor force is composed by non-nationals occupying both low pay jobsin the service sector and high‐end jobs in the finance industry. Kandra doesn’t work!She has 3 children with two different fathers, but no one of the father lives with her and the children.The houe is really small. It has only one bedroom and Kandra share it with her yongest doughter. Kayla and Kaleb go to sleep at their grandma’s place every night.
Virginia Savoia, 28 – Georgetown, Gran Cayman –
Virginia was born in Itlay where she then grow up and lived until when she was 20.Since she was a child, she wanted to be a classic dancer. She went to dance school for almost her whole life, then when she was 17 she started to work with a theater. “It was really nice to work there and live in Roma, but the salary was too low to survive” she says.Her mother moved to Cayman when Virginia was 15.5 years ago virginia decided to go visit her mother and when she got to Cayman, she immediatelly felt in love with the place and she decided not to go back to Italy. Now she lives in a wonderfull house along the beach and she became a scuba diver instructor, a kite surf instructor and a wind surf champion. Her bedroom is double of the size of the house she used to live in Roma.
Céline van de Velde, 22 – Berlin, Germany
Céline was born in Belgium 22 years ago. She grow up in a small family. She moved some years ago to Berlin to become a graphc designer. She now lives in a big house with other 3 people.
Katja Preising, 27 – Cologne, Germany
katja was born and raised in the country side in the north-west of Germany. She lived there until she finished the high school and then she moved to Cologne to make a 3-years course for Hotel Management.
She then worked in the bar of a big hotel in Cologne but after a year she decided to go to Astralia and try to find a job there.
She was in Australia for about two years and in that period she traveled a lot and she changed few jobs.
Since she was at school her dream was to open her own coffè shop. Her dream became true a couple of months ago. In fact, after the experience in Australia she came back in Cologne where she opened a little coffè shop in the center of the town.
She says: My room is really messy, but i’m super precise in life, and especially at my bar!
Andrea Carolina Alcàzar, 21 – Cartagena, Colombia
Andrea was born and raised in the suburbs of Cartagena. She’s from a poor family.
She now lives in a small house with her mother, her boyfriend and her little daughter. She studied for a year in a school of turism even if her dream is to become a chef.
She also has applied several times for the public university but she has never passed the exam.
Her boyfriend Jorge Luis is still studing.
Her bedroom doen’t have windows. She sleeps there with her Jorge Luis and their child. They all dream to built a new big house where they can live all together.
Cristina Mercedes De La Rosa Mendoza, 23 – Cartagena, Colombia
Cristina Mercedes was born in El Carmen De Bolivar, in Colombia.
She grow up moving every two years in a new city with her family.
She’s arrived in Cartagena in 2006 and she’s still here, living in the same house with her parents.
In Cartagena she studied at the university of art and now she has a degree in painting and performance.
Her dream is to became a famous artist. She paints a lot and she often take part of shows in the city or in other places in Colombia. Her art research is based around the sexuality of women.
“I had some problems to let my parents accept my art. It’s difficult to talk about sex with them and let them understand my painting and my performances. Now, after 4 years from the beginning of my studies, they are starting to appreciate what i do and accept my art”, she says.
She also works in the real estate market.
Enas Sherif, 22 – Cairo, Egypt –
Enas was born in a small village in the desert, 3 hours south of Cairo but she moved in the capital with her family when sha was just a baby.She lives with her parents in the east part of the city. She has her own room at home and she’s proud of the poster behind her bed. “It makes me dream to travel in places far from Egypt” she says. Enas works in a shop in one of the main shopping centre in Cairo.“The other girls that work together with me at the shop don’t use the veil to cover their hair and sometimes my boss ask me if i can do the same. But i like to use it, not because i’m strictly religious, i just think it’s nice and i like the way it makes me look”.Eneas has a dream: she want to be an hostess for the Egyptian Airline.
Elise, 26 – Colgne, Germany
Elise, 26 years old, was born in Cologne.
Growing up in a bilingual environment, her dad is german and her mother is from Belgium,she loved everything about learning other languages and countries.
So there was no doubt about choosing her studies at university. In fact she is finishing her studies of Political and Historical Sciences of Latin America, hoping to start one day a diplomatic career.
She still lives with her parents in a big house in the center of Cologne.
Danai Gourdomichali, 20 – Suonio, Greece
Danai is the younger of 3 sisters. Her mother is a writer and her father now works for a coffee company but until a couple of years ago he was working for a company that makes swim suits, this is why Danai has a big collection of them.
She’s a student of computer technology at the university of Athens. When she was a little girl her dream was to become a classic dancer.
In the past years she had the possiblity to pose as model for some local photographers. “I like to be photographed, i feel really confortable in front of the camera”.
Eugenie Manisalidi, 25 – Athens, Greece
Eugenie lives in a big apartment in the south part of Athens. She lives there alone, but her mother and her grandmother live in the same building. She’s studing german literature at the university of Athens. When she was 17 she started to listen only Hip Hop music. “I love that music and i always like the lyrics. I was curious to know why most of the hip hip singers were so angry in their lyrics, so i started to study the history of the black americans and their african origins. I immediately felt in love with the african history and culture. Since that moment i traveled few times in Africa and now I would love to move to live there. I think i’m going to live in Ghana for a while”.
Her room is full of posters and photos of singers and 90% of the books in her library are books about africa.
Katerina Stathi, 27 – Athens, Greece
Katerina was born and raised in Athens. “When i was a teenager i was really shy and i usually spent my time alone. I thought that all the other friends at school were cooler then me. I was also unconfortable with my body because i was really tall, maybe the tallest of the school, even taller then guys. My friends always tease me for this. Everything has changed when i went to the university: i met a girls that quickly became my best friend. She was a cool girl. She started to give me advises for my look. She helped me to choose my clothes, my hair, my make up etc. Step by step i started to be more confortable with my body and then, when i was 22, i had my first love story. During the university i also started to make sport. I first try to play tennis, then i started with beach volley. I now play in a team. I go to train every two days in the gym, but i also train myself at home every day.”
Keterina is at her last year of the university. She’s studing physics and she would like to be a teacher.
Altidon Rose Chelaine, 19 – Maniche, Haiti –
The room of Altidon Rose is almost empty, people in the western world would call it “a minimal room”.She lives in Maniche, a small village in the south peninsula of Haiti. The house is big and she lives there with the whole family: her parents, her grandmother and one brother.She has just finished the school and she would like to move to Port au Prince to go at the university but she doesn’t have enough money.
Daphne, 19 – Port Au Prince, Haiti –
Daphne is not the typical Haitian girl that people from western world used to imagine. She lives in a nice house in the center of Port Au Prince, she works for the local newspaper and she writes about fashin, music and art.“Basically, my work is to go out with friends, go aournd the city to discoer new places, new bars, new artist and musicians”, she says.She has studied 1 years in the United Staits, in Minnesona.She has a fashion blog and she is one of the most active haitian blogger.
Hannah Bruinink, 24 – Amsterdam, Netherlands
Hannah lives in one of the most tipycal houses in Amsterdam, in fact, she lives in a boat. The boat is in one of the main canals of the city and Hannah share it with another friend. They have two rooms, one kitchen and one living room. From the windows they see the water really close. Sometimes they feel the boat moving. “The firts times i was almost scared, especially when i was feeling the house moving in the night. But then after a while you get used to it and you don’t even feel the boat moving when it moves a lot!”, Hannah says.
Alysha , 29 and 31 – Hyderabad, India -Alysha is 29 years old, works for Disney Channel India and speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese. Alysha was born and raised in a Catholic family with distant Portuguese roots but his husband Kartikh was born and raised in an Hindu family and one-hundred percent Indian. “First we got married in Bangalore, where Kartikh’s family lives, according to the Hindu rite,” she tells me, adding, “I stayed quiet for the whole ceremony. The priest said everything in a language I didn’t even understand. I put on three different saris during the course of the day, and I don’t know how many dozens of times I lit incense. I didn’t understand much of what was going on, but it was beautiful, and fun too. Five days later, we were in Hyderabad, in a church, me with my white dress and him in a dark, elegant suit. In front of us stood a Portuguese priest, and we exchanged our rings and our vows of eternal love.” They now live together in Mumbai in a small house in the north part of the city. The room is almost empty and the main pesence there is the washing machine.
Ria Emily Mac Carthy, 29 – Varese, Italy –
Ria was born in Sardinia, the second biggest island of Italy, for an italian mother and a irish father. She’s from a small city, a place where the mentality of people is not very open. “Living in my hometown is like being in italy 50 years ago”, she says, “for me was really hard to live there. Since i was a teenager i had this passion for tattoos and be an alternative model. So, i felt like i needed to leave that place and go living somewhere else.”It’s a tattoo that then gave her the possibility to leave from Sardinia, because she went to make a tattoo in Varese at a famous tattoos shop and there she has found her love! She’s now married with a tattoo artist and this is why now she’s almost covered by tattoos. She work sas model and she’s part of the “suicide girl”: a website of uncommon models.
Erica Jacobs, 25 – Hermosa Beach, California – Erica is 25 years old and lives in Hermosa Beach CA, she lives a couple blocks from the beach in a small one bedroom apartment. She is able to pay for this apartment due to the money left to her when her father passed suddenly from a heart attack a couple years ago. She is an only child and he was basically the only family she had. She is a personal trainer and feels that she owes her life and her happiness to her father, so she knows he would want her to live in the best place she could, which is why she does what she does and lives where she lives.
Lyndsey Mull, 18 – Los Angeles, California –
Lyndsey is 18 years old, she a runner and lives in the freshmen dorms at UCLA which she attends on a scholarship where her roommate is also a runner. She runs track and is training for the Olympics. She spends almost all of her free time running or training. In high school she placed as the second fastest female runner in the nation. She is extremely dedicated to her sport down to every last detail of her life, from what she eats, to her clothes, her hair etc.Her room is really small and she share it with another girls.
Berenice Hernandez, 19 – Las Vegas, Nevada –
Berenice is 19, she was born in Mexico and then she moved with the whole family to Las Vegas when she was 3. She still live with her parents, one brother and one sister. They have a big house in the north part of the city. When she was 14 she got punched by a class mate at school and then she decided to start training boxe. “ I wanted to be able to defend myself, this is why I started with boxing”, she says. At the age of 17 she was the boxing champion of USA under 18! She has good possibilities to be selected for the next olympic games.Her room is simple, not many thing inside but her many trophies are well visible!
Estefani Evans De Olivera, 23 – Las Vegas, Nevada –
Estefani was born in Brazil in a big family of circensians, Sice she was a little child she worked in the family circus. “We were always on movement with my family. I grown up in an RV, moving from city to city. When i was 13 we all moved to china and we permormed there with the circus for about 3 years. Then we moved to Portugal and Italy. Then, when i was 19 i met a guy: a famous trapezist from Venezuela. He was about to go to work for the Cirque du Soleil. We felt in love i a short time and then he proposed to me to follow in in Vegas. I did it and after a while i started to work in one of the many circus here in Las Vegas. Four months ago we had our first child and so i had to stop working and training. But now, i’m ready again to start working.” She says.Estefani lives in a nice house together with her husband, his two brothers and his parents. They all work at the circus.

During one of her permormance in an art festival in Lyon, she met Yann, a swiss guy who then became her boyfriend. They are going to get married next summer. “I rememebr the day he sked me if i wanted to marry him: he came with flowers and a beautyful ring. It was the best day of my life” she says.
Mickayla Skaife, 23 – London, U.K.
Mickayla’s father is one of the guards of the Tower of London, so, Mickayla and her family live there.
There are 37 families living inside the Tower of London.
Mickayla was a singer. Until few years ago she was singing in a jazz band but then she decided to stop singing because she sais that she’s shy.
She now works in the sells department of “charlotte olympia” and thanks to her job, Mickayla has a big collection of shoes.
“Living in the Tower of London is magic and special, even if you are not completely free when you live here. There are some restrictions for the time you can go out and come back in, and when you have guests at home, they have to leave before 12:00 am, or after 6:00 am. So, sometimes my friends sleeps here because they always want to stay until late here!” she says.
Maaike Boersma, 29 – Haarlem, Netherlands
Maaike was born in Netherlands 29 years ago, but she moved with her family to Papua New Guinea when she was 5 because her father worked there at that time. She then grow up there. She speaks indonesian, datch and english. When she went back to Amsterdam many years later she needed a lot of time to learn to live in a place so different from Papua but after a year she was 100% used to her new life. She want to the unuversity to study indonesian colture and now she works as journalist for the biggest female magazine in NL. A couple of years ago she had a probelm with herself: she became shopping addicted! She needed to buy something every day. She wasn’t able to pass in front of a clothes shop without buying enything. “I felt really bad. Sometime it was a real pain, i felt acke to my body because i wanted to buy things. After a year like this i felt that i needed to be cured and that i needed to stop buying things. At that point i made the list of everything i own: 91 dresses, 25 jeans, 26 long pants, 20 short pants, 86 t-shirts, 14 chemisette, 22 skirts, more then 100 pairs of shoes and many many other things. I decided not to buy anything for a year and try to dress every day in a different way for the whole year just using what i already had! It was really hard, but i did it!!!” she says. Nadia Cruz, 25 – Veracruz, Mexico –
Nadia was born in Cuernavaca (mexico) 25 years ago. She grow up there with her family but then 2 years ago, she needed to move to veracruz to stay close to her mother who needed cures in a good hospital. After few moths in Veracruz her mother died and Nadia decided not to move bach to Cuernavaca. She found a joob for an insurance company specialized in insurances for shipping boat.
She now lives in the same house with a girl and her little dog Frida (for Frida Khalo).
Katelyn Mescali, 20 – Staten Island, New York –
Katelyn was born in New York and she grow up in Staten Island. She’s studing phisioteraphy at the Quinnipiac University in Connecticut but she go back to her family’s house every weekend.On September 11, 2011, she lost her father in the tragedy of the twin towers. “My father was a fire man. I remember that morning really well. My dad brough me to school. Before to get to school we stoped at the firehouse where he prepared a good breakfast. Then, i remember that 3 hours later, my mother came to pick me up at school. She was crying. We went home. My dad has never came back”.
Rachel Hamburg, 24 – Palo Alto, California –
Rachel was born in Indiana 24 years ago. She grow up there but then when she was 18 she decided to move and go alone in California.She’s now living in a big house together with other 21 person.“This is a sort of a comune. We share the duty, we share the cost of the food, we share the space and all the works for the house. It’s a great way to live our life. We all have respect for the others menber of the house. We never feel alone”.She still studing at the university but she’s also working.She work in a radio station and she’s the curator of a radio show.
Susanna Campana, 27 – Paris, France
Susanna was born in Italy in a little village in the country side of Tuscany. She grow up living together with all her big family: parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, uncles, aunts, all together in the same big house.
Her parents and grandparents always wanted her to study medicine but when se was 20 she decided to make a course for make-up artists. After the course she started to work for a small spa in Tuscany and few years later she decided to move to Barcellona where she then lived two year .She now lives in Paris with her boyfriend. She works in a beautyshop and sometimes she does some little job as freelance model or make-up artist.
Suraya Moledina, 30 – Paris, France –
Suraya was born in Nice 30 years ago from an Indian father and a French mother. She lived in Nice for 24 years together with her family. She also went to the university in NIce and she’s now a graphic designer. Six years ago she moved to Paris and she went to live in her uncle’s house: a small beautiful house in the top floor of a nice building really close to the Tour Hiffel.“My work as independent graphic designer is not enough to survive in Paris, this city is really expensive, so i also started a little new business.I love to cook, so i organize cooking class for turist and some “gourmet tour”: i bring peolpe around the city to discover the best restaurants, the best market etc.”I like to live in this house, but even if the view is amazing i would prefer to live in a bigger place but with less view!”
Giselle Dias, 20 – Rio De Janeiro, Brasil
Giselle was born and raised in Rio de Janeriro. She now lives in Barra, one of the richest area of the city, in a big and modern house together with her family.
Giselle loves photograohy and she has been a photographer since she was 14.
She’s now well knowed in Rio as one of the best photographer for music portraits. In fact, she take a lot of photos for music bands and singers. She has a degree in photojournalism, taken in London a year ago.
Her room is really big and it was decorated by her mom, who is an interior designer.
Since Giselle was little, she loved the hard rock cafe’s walls and so, she asked her mom to decorate her room in that style.
The guitar that she has is signed by Ozzy Osbourne and it was a gift.
Gessiane and Jessica Tiago da Silva, 20 – Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
Gessiane and Jessica are twins. They were born 20 years ago in Rio de Janeiro, where they grow up until now. Gessiane and Jessica are the youngest of 6 children.
They live with their parent in a small house in the favela Santa Marta.
Gessiane (in the bed above) has studied business administration and now works like secretary in an studio of engineers. She’s going to get married in two months and she’ll move in another house together with her husband.
She would love to open a stodio of accounting and working for big companies.
Also Jessica works like secretary, but in a pharmacy. She’s happy that her sister is going to get married because then she’ll have the whole room for herself.
Jessica dreams to become a model, she also has done a modeling school.
Vanessa Stevens, 19 – Santa Cruz, California –
Vanessa lives in an trailer in the forest. The particular thing about this trailer however is that this trailer is an official room of the univerity campus of the university of Santa Cruz in California.“There is an area of the campus completely dedicated to Rv and trailers. It’s a sort of a camping. There are 43 differents trailers, common bathrooms and sowers. There are about 80 students living here. We are a big community. People call us “new Hippy”. I like this definition, even if i think we are not so similar to the real old hippies”.She rents the trailer. She has been living there for about a year and now she’s looking for a bigger trailer.In her place there is everything she needs, but not the restroom, for that, she has to go to the common area.Vanessa is a good student but she says that at the end of the university she won’t look for a job. She wants to travel around the world and live doing simple little job sometimes.
Mariana Pereira Marques, 22 – Sao Paulo, Brasil
Mariana was born in Bahia 22 years ago, but she moved to Sao Paulo with her mother when she was a few months old. Her mother was the lover of her father and this is why Mariana has never lived with her father.
When she was a teenager she didn’t like Sau Paolo, but then growing up she started to love it and new she says she couldn’t live in any other place.
She has a degree in gastronomy and for a couple of years she worked in a restourant, but her dream would be to open an hostel.
She had sex the for the fisrt time when she was 15 and since that moment she loved it. “Sex is my first passion” she says, “i like to do it and i always want to do it. I had sex with more then 60 guys in my life. Most of them are much older then me, i like men with a lot of experience. I also have a blog now where i write all my sexual experience. I like to share these stories with people”.
A year ago Mariana had a economical problem, she needed money and she tried to have sex with a man for money. “He gave me 1000$, but i don’t like to have sex with him, i didn’t enjoy it. This is why i have never tried again”.

Julie Baechtold, 19 – Vevey, Switzerand –
Julie was born in Losanna but she grown up in Vevey. She has finished her high school 6 months ago and now she has taken a year off to prepare herself for an important test. She want to get into a famous school for cartoons designer in France. “They take 20 students per year but the are more the 700 people trying to get in every year, so i really need to study a lot by myself and try to get into the school when i can be really ready”Julie is also a diver. She’s actually a champion. She is into the national diving team and she won a lot of international competition. In the picture we can see a poster of her diving and a lot of medals that she won.
Holly Barantine, 30 – Austin Texas –
Holly was born and raised in Texas.She’s now 30 years old and she lives with her husband, a tattoo artist, and their two children.She has studied to be cook but she actually work as hair dresserShe plays in a post rock band called “Lucid Dimenta”. Their shows are really uncommon. She uses fake blood and meat on the stage and she makes a splatter show.She’s now starting a new little business with one of her best friends: they make cakes and then they deliver the cakes at home of the people who order them. The particular thing of their new business is that they dress like pin up girls when the go delivering cakes.
Olga Glotka, 22 – Kiev (Ukraine)Even if you have never met one, you might have heard on the news that in the centre of some big cities there are people who give hugs to strangers as a gift. Olga is one of them. Born 22 years ago in the south of Ukraine, she moved to Kiev in 2008. She studies philology and works as a waitress in a pastry shop. When she has some spare time she goes to the station forecourt with a banner with the writing “free hugs”. “You can’t believe how many people stop by. It seems many, too many people don’t get the love we need. Sometimes it happens that when I hug them, they start to cry, some others come back in half an hour for a second hug, thinking they won’t be recognised”.Olga doesn’t smoke, doesn’t drink alcoholics, eats very healthily and tries to buy things only at the local markets, she is vegetarian and, as she says, “naturist. I like wearing no masks and, whenever I can, not even clothes, especially when I am at home”. Her home is on the first floor of a big building in the centre of Kiev, but inside it is entirely painted with the countryside from where Olga comes from. Logs and big stones are used as chairs, table and sofa.
